How to Become a Real Estate Agent in Delaware

Your Step By Step Guide to Getting Your Delaware Real Estate License

Step 1: Complete a State Approved 99 Hour Pre-Licensing Course

Delaware requires all salesperson applicants to complete a 99 hour pre-licensing course through an approved education provider.

This course covers:

  • Real Estate Law

  • Real Estate Math

  • Real Estate Sales

Once you’ve completed your pre-licensing course exams with a 70% or higher, you will receive a certificate that allows you to schedule your exam.

Step 2: Pass the Delaware and National Real Estate Exam

The licensing exam includes:

  • A national portion

  • A Delaware state specific portion

You must pass both sections. Delaware allows up to three attempts per section before requiring you to retake the pre-licensing course. Exams are scheduled through Pearson Vue.

Step 3: Secure a Sponsoring Broker

Before your license can be activated, you must affiliate with a licensed Delaware real estate broker.

This is an important decision. Your broker provides:

  • Training and mentorship

  • Business support

  • Compliance and oversight

Not all brokerages operate the same way. Take time to evaluate training structure, leadership access, and long term growth opportunities.

Step 4: Apply for Your License Through DelPros

After passing your exam and selecting a broker, you will apply through the Delaware Professional Regulation Online Services system.

You will submit:

  • Exam results

  • Course completion certificate

  • Broker sponsorship information

Once approved, your license becomes active.

Step 5: Complete Post-Licensing Requirements

New Delaware agents must complete a 12 hour post-licensing courses within 90 days of license issuance. This requirement ensures new agents understand practical application beyond the classroom. Learn more about post-licensing requirements in our blog.
