how long is the delaware real estate licensing course?
Thinking about getting your real estate license in Delaware? One of the biggest questions we get asked is: How long does the required pre-licensing course take, and does format make a difference? Below is a breakdown to help you plan your timeline, decide on what works best for you, and get started on the right foot.
Let’s cover the basics:
Delaware mandates a 99 hour pre-licensing course for real estate salesperson candidates by an approved course provider.
The curriculum is divided amongst sales, math, and law.
Once you complete the course, you must pass the state and national licensing exam within one year of finishing the course.
Online Schooling Format:
The 99 hours of class time is required regardless of delivery format, online courses will still have 99 hours of instruction.
What changes is how you spread those hours out. Online formats often allow self-paced scheduling, meaning you could finish in a few weeks if you commit many hours per day, or stretch over several months. The online course provider in Delaware puts a max time limitation of the 99 hours for 12 months.
Students find the flexibility in timing to tackle the online schooling format to be a win. As long as you have access to the internet, you can work on your courses in the evenings, weekends or whenever you have free time.
Some students may struggle with no real time interaction with instructors or classmates. While some may struggle with self discipline to stay on schedule.
In Person Schooling Format:
The 99 hours of class time is required regardless of delivery format, so in person courses will still have 99 hours of instruction.
Courses that are in person with Central Delaware Real Estate Academy will be offered 3 nights per week, typically.
We offer shorter classes per night at 3 hours so that students are set up to best retain the course content.
Students appreciate the structured schedule of in person classes because it helps them from falling behind. Many students find access to live instructors for immediate clarification in real time to be a benefit. Often times, the opportunity for natural study groups and connections with classmates form, as well.
Some students may struggle with travel or commute time to get to class. Typically, due to professional approved instructors, in person schooling options will be priced higher than online, self paced schooling options.
Which Format is Best for You?
Online Schooling: If your goal is to finish quickly to begin working, you're motivated, and have free blocks of time, an online self paced course might get you through the 99 hours fastest.
In Person Schooling: If you need scheduled times to hold you accountable, in person classes are probably better. Along with the opportunity to connect with live instructors who are professionals in the real estate, lending, and law field. You’re looking at around 10 weeks to finish your classes.
