4 steps to your delaware real estate license

If you’re thinking about starting a career in real estate, you may be considering what the steps to becoming a REALTOR® in Delaware.

The Delaware Real Estate Commission sets clear requirements for anyone applying for a Salesperson’s License. At Central Delaware Real Estate Academy, we guide students through every step

Step 1: Complete the Required Pre-Licensing Course

Delaware law requires all Salesperson applicants to have successfully complete a 99-hour accredited Salesperson Pre-Licensing Course through an approved course provider, like Central Delaware Real Estate Academy.

Step 2: Pass the State and National Exams

After completing your pre-licensing course, you must pass the Delaware Real Estate Exam, which includes a national and Delaware specific portion.

Important: You have no more than three attempts to pass each portion. If you are unable to pass in three tries, you’ll need to retake the pre-licensing course before attempting the exam again.

Step 3: Apply for Your License

Once you pass your state and national exams, you’ll partner with a broker to apply for your Delaware license through the DelPros portal. Your application to the Delaware Real Estate Commission must include a copy of your school certificate, your scores from your State and National exams, and a Broker Statement Form.

Step 4: Join a Board of REALTORS®

Now that your Delaware real estate license is approved with the Delaware Real Estate Commission, you are able to apply for a Board of REALTORS®. In Delaware, you select one of the following:

  1. Kent County Association of REALTORS® (KCAR)

  2. Sussex County Association of REALTORS® (SCAOR)

  3. New Castle County Board of REALTORS® (NCCBOR)

When you join one of the above, you’ll also join the Delaware Association of REALTORS® (DAR) and National Association of REALTORS® (NAR).

You’ll also need to join the local multiple listing service (MLS) and complete your Newly Licensing Salesperson Modules within the first 90 days of licensure.
